ABLETON MIX

I carried out the mixing of this track in 2 stages. The first was in Ableton with all of the electronic elements before moving into ProTools to mix all audio files. I always start by creating a balanced mix using faders before adding any effects. My aim with mixing was to create a very ethereal sounding mix with lots of reverb that could be used as part of a soundtrack for TV or film.

Pad instrument – Reverb was added to this with 54% Dry/Wet and a decay time of 3.79s. There are also effects built into the instrument such as Voice Tone and Space.

Sines By The Sea instrument– I added a Chorus plugin to this to add some harmonies as this is my main melodic element. I used the Ensemble feature with the rate at 0.9Hz and the amount at 50%.

WST instrument - I wanted this to sound as if it was playing in the distance so used reverb to give this effect. After sifting through a few of the reverb plugins on Ableton such as Bright Room and Cathedral I eventually settled on using a Hybrid Reverb as these are reverbs that are simulating unique spaces. The reverb I used was called Droney Cave with a Decay time of 6s.
