MARKETING & PROMOTION

For marketing and promotion, I decided to reach out to charities linked to the conditions I was featuring and asked if they wanted to support and market my podcast as well as giving promotion to their charity through my product. I also reached out to a podcast promoting company called ‘The Big Light’ for the same reasons as the charity and to find what help they could offer in terms of further promotion.

REFLECTION

Upon reflection of this project, I feel I chose suitable routes to market this project in terms of my demographics and psychographics.  However, it didn’t have the desired results I had hoped for, particularly in terms of the charities. I should’ve reached out to more charities and followed more individuals that posted similar content and build a rapport with them. Another situation that I should’ve tried to make work better was I had put faith in friends and family to listen to it and also promote through word of mouth but this didn’t happen either.

SKILLS GAINED

The skills I gained from this project would aid me in becoming a freelance sound designer. I gained communication and networking skills by reaching out to various charities and production companies. I had to use different modes of communication such as emails, phone calls and messaging apps and ensure that I was professional in the way I went about this. I also gained skills in promotion, more specifically analysing market trends, identifying a target group and how best to market towards this. This would help when identifying job opportunities and how best to about them in terms of contacting filmmakers, production companies etc. to offer my services as a sound designer. I also learned the benefits of using social media as a means to contact people and promote myself through this.
